The Window Shading Association of Australia (WSAA), formerly known as the Blind Manufacturers Association of Australia, has announced the retirement of three long-standing directors.
Gilbert Da Silva, President of the WSAA, told members at the organisation’s recent Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Brisbane that he wanted to acknowledge the work of three very important and valuable people within our Association – Peter Meyer, Geoff Turner and Frank Cairns.
As part of the association’s Strategic Plan, in 2023 a 5-year Director term was introduced, replacing two Directors yearly with two newly appointed Directors.
Frank Cairns retired as a Director in April this year with Peter Meyer and Geoff Turner standing down from the Board effective from the closure of the AGM, having completed their terms.
“Our association owes great gratitude to Peter, Geoff and Frank,” Da Silva said.
“Peter Meyer joined the Board of Directors in November 2013. He started Blinds by Peter Meyer in 1987 and retired as Managing Director at the beginning of 2012. The business is now run by his sons Simon and Damian Meyer.
“Peter has had over 50 years of industry experience, and has served in many roles on the Board. He was involved in our lobbying activities at the time of the introduction of the Cord legislation. He has held a number of portfolios on the Board – Membership, and Consumer Liaison. Peter was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2014,” Da Silva said.
“Geoff Turner joined the Board in July 2016. Geoff is the owner and managing director of Viewscape Pty Ltd. Geoff has been heavily involved in the development of the association’s Strategic Plan and held the portfolio of Strategy Development and Partnerships.”
“Frank Cairns joined the Board in November 2018. He is the owner and managing director of Decor Blinds Australia Pty Ltd, based in Brisbane. Frank has served on many sub-committees over the years, even prior to his time on the Board. These sub-committees include WincovER, Child Safety, Membership, Training and more recently, he has held the Technical portfolio which encompasses Licencing and National Construction Code’s fire regulations. Frank was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016.”
