Ultracut Duoweld a “game-changer” for NSW firm

Issue 89 March 2023

The Ultracut Duoweld has proven a game-changer for NSW based business Sew What Blinds. According to the company’s Scott Daly, the Duoweld and Vectrocut Sono have “transformed the way we manufacture our awnings.”

Using the Duoweld has allowed Daly to increase production speed significantly, as he notes that “the welding time is about three times faster than my RF welder.”

Additionally, the Duoweld’s design eliminates the risk of fire and burning fabric, which can be a concern with traditional RF welders. Daly notes that “the Duoweld is much safer to use as there are no RF emissions.”

One of the most significant benefits of the Duoweld is its ability to deliver consistent welds without requiring a highly skilled operator. “We found that the Duoweld delivers consistent welds every time,” he says. “The Duoweld ticks every box for us when it comes to welding fabric to Kedars and Zips.”

The Ultracut Duoweld’s patented Kedar/Zipper clamp also makes it easy to work with a variety of brands and types of kedars. Daly says that “the welder is easily configurable to work with their kedars among other brands.”

In addition to its ease of use, the Duoweld also offers a range of features that make it a versatile tool for awning manufacturing. Daly notes that the Duoweld gives his team the option of a 10mm or 20mm weld at the touch of a single button on the job screen. “We can join fabrics, make pockets, or attach Kedars up to 6.4 meters in length quickly and easily,” he says

Another key feature of the Duoweld is its linear tensioning of the heating elements, which prevents metal fatigue and the need for frequent element replacement. “We have not had to replace an element from breaking yet due to this design,” notes Daly.

“The Duoweld and Vectrocut Sono have transformed the way we manufacture our awnings,” he says. “We couldn’t be happier with the results.”

“Our investment in the Vectrocut Sono has been one that we don’t regret at all,” he says. “This fully automated fabric cutting table has been a great investment.”

One of the biggest benefits of the Vectrocut Sono, according to Daly, is its ability to save time and eliminate operator errors. “It consistently cuts all four sides with precision and doesn’t require sacrificial plastic film to create a vacuum seal as the Vectrocut Sono has a unique four sided clamping system which holds the fabric in a perfect position for cutting. You get a square skin every time.”

The Vectrocut Sono has also significantly sped up cutting time for Daly’s team, and its pre-programmed fabric library makes it easy to switch between fabrics quickly and easily. “There are both Ultrasonic and Pressure (crush) cutting tools and a fabric library with pre-programmed settings to suit every fabric we use.”

In addition to its efficiency and ease of use, the Vectrocut Sono is also low-maintenance and easy to install.

“It does not require anything more than a 240-volt electric socket and compressed air. No 3-phase power needed so install was simple.”

Overall, Daly highly recommends Ultracut for their product reliability, quality, and service. “The staff learned to use it in no time and love using it as it is so fast and easy,” he says. “I would highly recommend Ultracut.”
