SpecTex postponed amid Covid-19 uncertainties

ISSUE 79 July 2021

SpecTex, the trade exhibition and conference for the specialised textiles industry organised by the Specialised Textiles Association (STA), has been postponed due to Covid-19 related uncertainty.

SpecTex was originally scheduled to take place from 24 to 26 July 2021 at Doltone House, Pyrmont, Sydney.

However in a statement released in late June, STA Executive Officer Ana Drougas, confirmed that “due to the current Covid-19 situation evolving in NSW, our Council of Management have made the very difficult decision to postpone SpecTex21.”

“With less than four weeks to go before the commencement of SpecTex21 and the uncertainty of the situation evolving in NSW, it is important to consider the time, effort, planning and financial commitment all our exhibitors and visitors/attendees have made and would be making leading to SpecTex,” the statement said.

“Above all, the success and safety of our visitors, exhibitors, staff, and partners has always been our priority and this will continue to be the case. For all these reasons STA’s Council of Management could not confidently move towards holding SpecTex21 as planned between 24-26 July. Ample time needed to be allowed for cancellation of plans to take place with minimum fall back for all SpecTex21 stakeholders.”

The statement confirmed the STA was working with suppliers including venues, booth builders, logistics, hotel, speakers and entertainers to reschedule SpecTex21 “for a date in the very near future.”

With many exhibitors and delegates having already made payments towards SpecTex21, Drougas said the STA suggested payments should remain in place for the time being.

“Once we have a better understanding of the situation, we will touch base with options. If you would prefer a refund before then, please do not hesitate to contact me.”

For attendees having booked accommodation at The Star Sydney, the hotel can be contacted on 1800 700 700 to cancel or make enquiries on alternative arrangements.
