Somfy drives high-performance solutions message

ISSUE 72 May 2020

Somfy recently partnered with the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) as part of TRANSFORM Online 2020, a virtual conference offering a forum for thought leaders to come together and make a collective impact on the industry.

Anders Hall, President of the European Solar Shading Organisation (ES-SO) and International Business Development for Somfy International, presented on the importance of Somfy innovations in a time when buildings are focusing on sustainability and the wellbeing of occupants.

“We need to realise the importance of dynamic, automated, smart behaving, solar shading combined with the correct type of glass,” said Hall.

Hall used Somfy’s flagship project, 200 George Street Sydney, as an example of how well-planned control solutions come together to create a high-performance facade which can have a positive contribution on the building.

Access to natural daylight which can be adjusted to create a healthier indoor environment and provide occupants with both thermal and visual comfort will lead to higher productivity and improved well-being.

Users report increased satisfaction thanks to personal individualised control, allowing them to manage heat and glare to suit their own needs.

It will generate energy savings, providing a significant decrease in the need for artificial heating and cooling.

Speaking to the Green Building Council of Australia, Somfy Oceania’s Head of Marketing, Alistair Grice touched on the importance of resilience and adaptability in the industry.

“We take innovation from all over the world. Improvement in controls, solutions, technologies, protocols and things like shadow management. It’s around constant improvement in a product offer and an ability to deliver that offer to the market.

“When you’re seeing facades like 200 George Street, those facades have got a high level of performance right from the get-go. A building like that which has an adaptable façade, they’re going to be in a better position in the coming years to change and adapt to the climate.”
