Ricky fields green enquiries at Spectex22

Issue 86 September 2022

Ricky Richards exhibited at the Specialised Textiles Association’s Spectex22 in Sydney from 30 July to 1 August, where the team observed growing interest in sustainable products.

“This show had been delayed from 2020 due to the previous two years of lockdowns, although it certainly didn’t feel like there were those years between shows, the buzz and connections around the rooms during events was like people had caught up the week before,” Kelly Morgan Marketing Operations at Ricky said.

“It was wonderful to get the team back out there to share our fabrics face to face with customers, friends and companies that are new to the textile industry all in one place.”

“On our stands, the textiles on display during the show included our sun control fabrics which are specifically designed for outdoor blinds, awnings, and outdoor upholstery.”

Morgan noted that one question sparked numerous conversations: What fabric can be used that is a cleaner or greener option when thinking about the environment?

“In the sun control division at Ricky, we have a couple of products that fit the cleaner option including Solterior FR which is manufactured in Japan by Izumi.”

“This fabric is a solution dyed polyester that is produced from recycled PET drink bottles. By using recycled bottles in the yarn, Solterior FR saves both energy resources and the environment while delivering the same high-quality features as other Ricky sun control products.”

“Solterior FR which is ideal for commercial awnings and market umbrellas is RoHS compliant, fire retardant, waterproof and UV stabilised. Available in 10 popular colours and backed by a 5-year warranty, and it also comes with the full support of the Ricky team.”

While Solterior FR is made using recycled bottles, the Outlook mesh collection, all ranges except the Mode Zero, is manufactured using Dow Ecolibrium bio-based plasticisers in their formulation allowing four of the five Outlook ranges to be a cleaner mesh option.

“The many benefits of this include a reduction to greenhouse gas emissions. With 98% of the plasticisers used in these mesh products being derived from non-fossil fuel feed stock, it means around one litre of petroleum is saved each time you use these Outlook mesh fabrics for a blind of approximately 10 square metres.”

“The Outlook mesh fabrics that use Dow Ecolibrium in their formulation will reflect up to 95% of solar energy while still allowing air to pass through, helping to create a cooler, more comfortable environment naturally.”

The Outlook mesh fabrics are available in three types of openness: 1%, 5% and 12% and include a selection of colours inspired by Colorbond which means you can match any existing outdoor theme and as a bonus, all these fabrics are supported by a full 10-year warranty.
