Louvolite’s latest A5 swatch release supports ongoing fabric innovation

Issue 100 January 2025

Earlier this year, to comply with requests from a large number of customers, Louvolite launched a collection of A5 swatches of its most popular patterned and textured fabrics.

The A5 swatches offer a number of new and innovative features.

“First and foremost, they feature a snap-in-snap out location system, negating the need for opening the D rings in a book to remove a swatch and enable the consumer to view the fabric more closely. The Louvolite A5 swatches simply snap on or off the D rings whilst remaining totally secure when in position.

The specification details of the fabrics are shown on the back cover of the swatch and in the case of those designer fabrics such as Collina or printed fabrics such as the popular Swedish Birch, a QR code is printed to enable the consumer to scan and view a larger image of the fabric design.

Louvolite has now introduced three New ranges of blockout fabric from the 1st January: Classic, Serenade and Linen. These new three-metre wide fabrics are not just attractive and sellable due to their design; they each share an additional feature which can answer the need of many blind manufacturing companies.

“Typically blockout fabrics are created by adding multiple additional layers of material to effectively block out the light and stop it penetrating the fabric. This valuable feature is of importance in countries such as Australia where light levels are high and can be both intrusive and disruptive.  However the typical manufacturing processes used to create these fabrics also adds a couple of unwanted features – the fabric gains significant weight per sq metre and with that added thickness. Fabric weights of 380 – 440 gsm can be seen, this can create challenges for the operating system due to the overall weight of operating a large blind.

“Secondly, where the consumer requests the ever popular fascia system to add to the aesthetic appeal of the blind, a further challenge presents itself. As the fabric is typically thicker the girth of the combined tube and fabric as it rolls up can become challenging to fit into the fascia – this is of course particularly true on long drop shades.

“The three new programmes from Louvolite overcome these issues. Firstly, the manufacturing process differs from the traditional one whilst fully retaining the required blockout performance. This results in significantly lower weight per sq /m of each fabric; they range between 243 gsm and 273 gsm.”

An additional benefit of the reduction in weight is a corresponding reduction of thickness of each fabric, which ranges from 0.38mm to 0.57mm. This can allow even long drop blinds to fit comfortably within fascias and cassettes.

“These key features make Louvolite’s new blockout fabrics a valuable addition to any customers fabric portfolio.”
