In Memoriam: Peter Meyer (1948–2025)

A service to celebrate Peter’s life was held on Tuesday, 18 November 2025, at the Lotus Pavilion, Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium. For those unable to attend in person, the service was live-streamed so that friends, colleagues, and loved ones from near and far could join in remembering him.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to pay their respects were invited to donate to Dementia Australia, a cause close to Peter’s heart. In his final years, Peter faced the challenges of dementia, and support for further research into this condition is deeply valued by his family.

Just days before his passing, Peter celebrated his 77th birthday, a reminder of a life so well lived. Before founding Blinds by Peter Meyer in 1987, Peter had already begun carving his entrepreneurial path through Peter Meyer Furnishings, The Cane Shop, and The Rug Shop — ventures that grew from his early days selling rugs at Paddy’s and Paddington Markets.

From the very beginning, Peter thrived on being his own boss, driven by creativity, passion, and an unwavering work ethic. He built not just a business, but a community – one defined by craftsmanship, care, and genuine connection. He created a workplace that felt like family. Many who joined him in the early years remained for decades, a true reflection of the warmth, respect, and loyalty he inspired in everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Peter will be remembered for his immense contribution to the blinds and window furnishings industry, his leadership through the Window Coverings Association of Australia (formerly BMAA), and his love of good food, fine wine, travel, and great conversation.

Rest peacefully, Peter. You are deeply missed, but your legacy – your creativity, generosity, and enduring spirit – will continue to guide and inspire all who knew you.
