Somfy’s battery-powered curtain motor has taken two international design awards, and the company points to installer-focused features including four mounting options and capacity for curtains up to 50kg.
Somfy’s Glydea Ultra 50 WireFree Zigbee curtain motor has received the iF Design Award 2026 and the Red Dot Design Award 2026.
“The awards are not only in recognition of aesthetics, but they also highlight a product designed around the needs of installers and end users, combining ease of installation, seamless connectivity and discreet integration into interiors,” says Nicki Beggs, Somfy Oceania’s Product Marketing Executive.

The Glydea Ultra 50 WireFree Zigbee offers four mounting options, quiet operation with adjustable speed, and full integration with Somfy’s TaHoma platform. It can motorise curtains up to 50kg on tracks of up to 12 metres. Somfy says the removable battery has a lifetime of up to eight years, and the motor’s textile design is intended to blend naturally into living spaces.
Beggs credits the result to cross-functional collaboration. “Design, engineering, marketing, intellectual property, industrialisation and product teams all contributed to bringing Glydea to life and transforming customer needs into an innovative solution now recognised on the international stage,” Beggs says.
