Blind and Awning projects recognised at STA Awards

Issue 86 September 2022

Two blind and awning projects received recognition at the recent Specialised Textiles Association (STA) Awards for Excellence held during the Spectex22 trade exhibition and conference.

Winner in the Blinds & Awnings Domestic category was Concept Carpentry and Canvas for its Kilcare Cottage project.

“The client requested a replacement of old worn out hand rolled blinds. The purpose was a fresh look in keeping with the building whilst having an easy operation and blocking the wind and sun in summer and allowing greater use of the area in winter with the aid of heaters,” the company said in its entry.

“These blinds are a great fit and match for this old fishing cottage. The client’s choice of fabric and colours speaks for itself. We wanted to not make a massive statement whilst giving the house a refresh and practical use. This project was a success and has added a completely new element of use for this house.”

In the Blinds & Awnings Commercial category, Shadeform took out first prize for their Kingsford the Barossa project.

“The client requested a retractable shading solution to make best use of a new terrace area in a new significant expansion, that included extra accommodation, a large outdoor swimming pool and a stylish alfresco terrace area, including a BBQ area and contemporary bar,” Shadeform said in its notes.

“The Project ‘Kingsford Barossa’ in the famous Barossa Valley, involved a series of three Shaderunner Retractable Shade Systems positioned side by side.”

“Custom designed to suit the area, each system is 5.5m wide and extends out 9.0m, providing 150sqm of retractable shading.”
