Weinor Australia

Vertical success

Demand for vertical awnings remains robust, with durable, user friendly solutions continuing to draw the market’s attention. WFA spoke to three key suppliers about their offerings.

Weinor Australia

Weinor is proud to offer innovative shading solutions that redefine outdoor spaces, says Managing Director Simon Meyer.

“Our latest awning range combines two tried and tested Weinor products, the Plaza Viva and the VertiTex II, to provide a complete system that promises privacy, wind, sun, and glare protection from all angles.”

“The Plaza Viva Retractable Roof, known for its slimline design and versatility, serves as a weather all-rounder, enabling homeowners to savour their decks or patios throughout the year. With its robust wind resistance and seamless integration, the Plaza Viva offers a practical solution for facades with limited load-bearing capacity, providing reliable weather protection. This remarkable awning system can project up to five metres and extend up to six metres wide, offering ample coverage for various outdoor spaces.

Weinor Australia

“The Plaza Viva offers technical innovations like gear handle operated Valance Plus, integrated LED lighting and adjustable telescopic post. The telescopic post is unavailable when combined with the VertiTex II. Nevertheless, this doesn’t compromise the outstanding features and benefits of the combined Plaza Viva with Vertitex II.

“The VertiTex II Exterior Roller Blind sets itself apart with its compact cassette housing and unique cantilever guide rail mounts. With tiny cassette sizes ranging from 75mm to 112mm, the VertiTex II delivers unparalleled adaptability to suit different architectural profiles. The patented Weinor Opti-Flow System ensures the fabric’s position is always perfect, guaranteeing consistent performance and a visually pleasing appearance.

“Our awning range is designed to address a clear gap in the market. Homeowners seeking a seamless integration of reliable weather protection, privacy, and sun control from all sides have long awaited such a complete system. The combination of Plaza Viva and VertiTex II provides the missing puzzle piece, fulfilling the needs of those who want a single, comprehensive solution for their outdoor spaces.”

Meyer says the market for awnings has witnessed significant shifts over the past years, especially during the pandemic.

“With the pandemic confining people to their homes, there was a surge in demand for exterior awnings as individuals sought to enhance the comfort and enjoyment of their living spaces. However, as the world gradually reopened and faced inflation and increased raw material costs, sales experienced a temporary slowdown.

“Looking ahead, the market remains dynamic, influenced by factors like people’s desire to travel and rising interest rates. Although the pandemic appears to be in the rearview mirror, there is still a renewed interest in home improvements, including awning installations. However, the increased cost of living could impact affordability and purchasing decisions, creating a delicate balance between demand and budget constraints.

“Weinor remains committed to crafting solutions that elevate outdoor living, providing customers with seamless integration and complete satisfaction. Our awning range, featuring the Plaza Viva with VertiTex II combination, epitomises innovation and comfort, allowing homeowners to revel in their outdoor spaces with unparalleled protection and aesthetics.”

Shaw

Shaw

Ben Hayek, Head of Division, Shaw Performance Hardware, say the SuperExpo23 gave Shaw the perfect opportunity to launch its program of external vertical awning systems, under the brand of ShawScreen Shelter and Shade.

Shaw

“ShawScreen ZipGrip is at the core of the range. This is a low maintenance system, where the mechanics are neatly hidden in elegant channels, with no unsightly zips or spline obstructing your view.

“ZipGrip design smarts include a robust, yet invisible, central locking system with a handle for effortless operation when the awing is spring loaded. Alternatively a motor can maximise end user ease of use. With a large shading area of 5m width x 3m drop (15sqm), ZipGrip will fit into, and complement most modern homes.

“From a manufacturer’s perspective, and to create a uniform look across the ShawScreen program, Shaw uses the same hardware for all of the screens with interchangeable components,” Hayek explains. “This reduces stock holding for our manufacturing partners which is particularly beneficial on higher value items such as cassettes and bottom rails.”

Hayek adds that ShawScreen includes a range of systems to suit different installation scenarios;

DeepSides is described as the ultimate in wide span awnings. The wrinkle free finish is achieved by the cleverly designed and weighty bottom bar, which locks into the channels tocreate tension in the fabric.

WireSides is a wire guided system with a contemporary design and a minimalist edge. Stainless steel wire cables will ensure the bottom bar tracks perfectly during operationand is ideally suited to coastal areas.

FreeSides is a minimalist, straight drop shading solution which is a perfect alternative solution in situations where DeepSides  or WireSides are not practical.

Customers can select from seven stock colours, or Shaw’s  mill finish products to complement the exterior finish perfectly, then choose to operate with either a crank handle or motorisation.

Hayek adds that all ShawScreen products are designed for installation with Shaw’s Dayscreen 1% and 5% external screen fabric, available in multiple widths and 17 colours.

“The program is developed to withstand the rigours of the Australian climate, shading and protecting from the elements. The systems create an all year round space providing heat and light control, which is welcomed during this time of economic pressure when moving home is more restricted and the expense of eating out is increasing. Homeowners have greater capacity to work, relax and entertain at home.

“From a manufacturer’s perspective the ShawScreen program of product represents a range of outdoor vertical awnings with interchangeable parts, reduced stock holding particularly of the more expensive items, and simple installation.

“Each component of the ShawScreen program has been carefully engineered to maximise the benefit to the end user, but still remain simple to install, be durable and cost-effective. The mechanics of the new central lock are totally hidden from view and the harsh elements to increase longevity and style. The lock is incredibly straightforward to assemble, and quick to install with no need for laser-levels on site.

“Continuous improvement has been a major part of Shaw’s culture for 75 years in the industry, and Shaw’s hardware division is no exception,” says Hayek. “Shaw always looks ahead, keeping on trend and ensuring it offers its partners the best products for the market.

He adds that the Shawscreen program will drive down barriers of entry to all manufacturers of outdoor screens by offering great products at a cost-effective rate.

“With our experienced sales team, we can offer our partners full manufacturing and installation training. The support of Shaw’s Business Development Managers is ongoing, and they will assist with marketing materials, technical knowledge and listen to feedback on how a product could be improved.

The program is supported by a nationwide network of distribution centres, a centralised call centre, warranties and a wealth of supporting manuals and guides.
