Louvre systems category grows on back of awareness

ISSUE 81 November 2021

Adjustable louvre systems are a growing market as customers become more aware of their solar control benefits as well as their architectural properties.

Stefano Di Giovanni, the National Sales Manager at Horiso says that there is particular growth in louvre systems which are operable and have the ability to adjust louvre slats as desired.

“There are several louvre systems in the market but they are either fixed or can only be adjusted manually and not with ease.”

“Our systems adjust very easily and can be operated via manual, motorised or complete automated control.”

“External blinds as a category are a popular product as they provide not only a shading solution but also an architectural feature to a building facade. With low maintenance and multiple control options available, external systems are increasing in popularity.”

Horiso offers aluminium louvre slats in a new array of colours with the ability to customise colours for coordinating with a building colour or finish. The louvre slats can also be shaped to fit all types of window shapes and sizes – from triangles, trapezoids to circles.

“Horiso Rack Arm Systems are unique in that they are a fixed yet operable louvre system,” Di Giovanni says.

“They can also be custom made to multiple shapes and sizes and installed at various angles and are still operable from zero to 90 degrees.”

“As an example, the systems can be shaped to fit the exact angle of a roof or even a circular window. The systems also offer not only solar control and natural airflow but also privacy and security when closed.”

Di Giovanni says that people working from home has increased the need for appropriate shading systems, as glare control is a significant factor when working in a space with a lot of direct sunlight.

“The ability to control natural daylight and airflow is the optimum solution to a productive working environment.”

Mark San Martin, Teleco General Manager, says the louvre market has developed “in leaps and bounds” with the company more than doubling its turnover in 24 months.

“While some louvre roof producers might balk at the idea of adding more technology to their ranges, market expectation is a driving force,” San Martin says.

“The simplicity of the Teleco plug and play low voltage solutions led us to quickly becoming a market leader in this louvre roof segment.”

“In fact, our successes in the Australian and New Zealand markets have seen us rewarded with a Gold Coast Business Excellence award in October this year, as well as qualifying as a finalist in the 2021 Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards.”

Earlier this year, Teleco Automation (Italy) acquired 70% of the share capital of NEKOS Srl. Nekos a leading Italian company in the production of motors to open and close windows and louvres installed in domestic, commercial and industrial environments.

“Having worked in the industry for over 15 years here in Australia, specialising in motors and controls, I have seen firsthand that there is a gap in the market when it comes to motorising aluminium shutters.”

“I can see opportunities with a number of the Nekos products to bring in new and innovative low voltage solutions,” San Martin says.

“Having direct access to some of the most experienced designers and innovators in Europe is a huge benefit, as we can present them with challenges unique to the Australian market and have them create solutions that do not exist anywhere else in the world.”

“We are currently working with leading producers of aluminium shutters in Australia, and we hope to have some exciting offers in the months to come.”

San Martin says another product that is gaining traction overseas is the extruded silicon LED strip.

“This is a silicon extrusion with an integrated LED strip that is seamlessly incorporated into an aluminium profile.”

“Its simple integration makes for a clean, professional finish that is also weatherproof. The silicon profile is used with all applications, including folding-arm awnings, retractable fabric roofs and aluminium louvre roofs.”

“Some awning suppliers are already offering folding-arm awnings from European suppliers with this solution built in and controlled from the awning remote control.”
