Heat and light

Issue 82 January 2022

In any Australian summer, the focus on sunscreens is likely to spike, thanks to myriad benefits including heat reduction and visibility. Now, as homes evolve into work places, their ability to support multifunctional spaces is also key. WFA reports.

SHANN GROUP

“Defining how rooms will be used and deciding what your temperature and light requirements need to be are all critical steps when choosing your interior window furnishings,” says Shann Group National Product Manager Melissa Vine.

She says that domestically, multi-function rooms continue to be popular as people transition to hybrid working arrangements, combining office hours and working from home.

“Layering window treatments, particularly with roller style blinds, to achieve this desired look and performance is especially easy with quality internal sunscreen fabrics like N-Vision and S-View.”

“When coupled with a gorgeous block out fabric (try Castille or the Australian Made Laurent) or on their own, using Shann Window N-Vision or S-View creates the perfect blend of light and privacy.”

N-Vision is the market leading 2×2 basket weave internal screen mesh fabric and selected colours are now available in 200cm width and 10% openness construction (300cm width).

The recently released 200cm width works perfectly with new options in sidelights. The superior visibility of the N-Vision range also lends itself so well to the trend toward narrower rails and stiles, providing larger sight lines and unobstructed views.

The addition of a 10% openness construction allows a plethora of light while still offering a degree of privacy, and is perfect for both narrow and larger window treatments.

Vine says soft neutrals and monochromatic colour schemes dominate current interior styling “and the expansive colour range available across Shann’s sunscreen ranges provides the inspiration and flexibility to deliver that perfect design.”

“For more than 15 years, Shann internal screen mesh fabrics have been the tried, tested and true performer. N-Vision and S-View (2×1 mesh) are exclusively manufactured using European components and raw materials.”

“These meshes offer better aesthetics, less shrinkage, greater tensile strength, and superior tear strength.  Additionally, they are eco-focused boasting Greenguard, Oeko-Tex and REACH regulation certifications.”

“Lower quality meshes often have a lower oxygen index, which can have negative effects on flammability and burning behaviour. Additionally, they can also have significant shrinkage issues, up to 20% when compared to higher quality meshes.”

“Our internal mesh partners can maximise their product offer to their customers by sitting under the umbrella of our warranty, dedicated service, a superior product, a fully supportive supplier relationship, and a tangible longevity of product that performs.”

COULISSE

Coulisse’s Screen Naturals is positioned as “the perfect indoor window covering solution that emphasises natural daylight and meets strict requirements when it comes to sustainability, performance, and aesthetics.”

The transparent screen with a 2%, 3% or 5% openness factor is available in six colors both with and without metallised backing and a width up to 300 cm.

“It filters the light in a natural way, contributes to energy efficiency, and preserves the indoor air quality.”

“Screen Naturals is coloured dark on the inside, creating a contrast with the outside world, which results in maximum view-through from inside the building. The metallised backing of Screen Naturals blocks the incoming diffused light.”

“Inside the building, this offers optimal visual comfort, leading to higher human productivity. The special backing also stimulates the energy-efficiency of the building as it helps to keep the heat outside.”

Screen Naturals have a refined weaving texture with a natural look and feel. The screens in this collection are made of 100 % Trevira CS polyester free of PVC, VOC’s, Phthalate, Formaldehyde and heavy metals, which helps to preserve the indoor air quality and makes the fabric safe for direct skin contact.

Screen Naturals are flame retardant and suitable for roller, panel and vertical blinds.

BM BLINDS

Maggie Tieu, BM Blinds Sales Representative, confirms the company offers the 5% Uniview as its standard sunscreen.

Although various percentages of openness are available, the most popular continues to be 5% openness, 95% protection.

Uniview is offered in 17 colours, including the most popular colour over the past 12 months, Chalk.

“The second most popular choice is Charcoal, which highlights the trend for neutral colours within homes. The light colours offer great protection against the sun’s harmful rays whereas the darker colours allow clear vision to the outdoors, giving an almost uninterrupted view to the outside world.”

“Sunscreen fabrics have been popular for many years and are the perfect solution for customers who want to retain their view while leaving their blind in the down position. Sunscreens also offer great protection from the sun’s harmful rays, helping reduce fading on soft furnishings and flooring.”
