“Roller Shutters are still our core business,” says Ozroll National Sales and Marketing Manager Jack McDonald. “We sell in excess of 1000 shutters per week on average, year on year. Our capacity in a shift is 300 shutters and we’re coming into the period of seasonal demand where we hit that capacity once or twice per week.
In terms of the category’s overall growth, different regions peak and trough around the country at different times, he says. “We saw a huge increase in Melbourne two years ago, due to the crime spree that was happening at that time, while Sydney began to suffer from a shaky economic climate. Sydney has bounced back now but Melbourne retailers probably had the toughest winter for a long time. Meanwhile at the moment we see Queensland setting record sales, particularly in the northern areas. The pie nationally seems to stay around the same size each year, it’s just the division of the pie that changes.”
