Exterior shutters are a growing product line, with increasing numbers of consumers seeking them out for their homes or businesses. Along with sales growth in 2022, the category saw a shift in colour trends, with darker hues such as grey and black taking preference over traditional whites.
MYT Shutters
MYT Shutters Global Sales Director Scott Sloan says the company has recently released several new features in their exterior shutter line.
“All our shutters have been innovated, developed and manufactured in our very own factory. Most of these new features also have been patented by MYT.”
“Our new releases include: the Slimline Aluminium shutter; two new blade options: the 130mm Aluminium blade, and the 89mm S Blade, with mohair for soft closing; an adjustable blade lock, and concealed Blade Tensioning device; and lastly our internal Supatilt mechanism with unrivalled performance and able to control upto 23 louvres in a single bank. All our exterior shutters are made of the highest quality T5 grade Aluminium and also come standard with Aluminium end caps for the louvres.”
Scott says the new Slimline Aluminium with sleeker panel joints) (more dimensionally stable than ever before, with mitred corners is stronger and more dimensionally stable.
“Paired with our Slimline Aluminium we now have a new 89mm S blade option, with a Mohair seal for soft closing. This ensures the blades close smooth and soundless, even when slammed shut. The S blade has better light control and also improved weather protection against dust, rain and wind.”
The Slimline also includes a new patented internal Supatilt, a new patented and concealed blade tensioning device and a new patented adjustable blade lock which can be set to four different pre-set positions.
“Perfecting the aluminium shutter and its functionality has been at the top of MYT Shutters’ priority list, as we have noticed the lack of options out there for exterior shutters on the market.”
“The current market for this category is growing, and with for example our new 130mm blade for the more modern homes being built today, we wanted to offer a more minimal and modern designed exterior shutters.”
“We do see more and more suppliers are cutting corners when it comes to aluminium shutters. Aluminium is purchased as a raw material and priced by the overall net weight. But as we all sell per square metre, no one can actually determine just how much aluminium they are getting for their hard-earned money. MYT’s Aluminium Shutters weigh 13kg p/m2, compared to others on the market that only weigh 6-7kg, meaning our exterior shutters are the best value for money on the market today.”
Scott says darker colours are currently trending.
“As a result, MYT Shutters finds itself selling more of our Midnight Black and also Monument (Charcoal) colour.”
“This being said, the clean look of a pure Pearl White is also still heavily in demand.”
“MYT Shutters only use a scratch resistant textured powder coating, to ensure that the exterior shutters can handle rough weather or storms. We are seeing a lot of suppliers that use a basic glossy or satin smooth finish coatings which scratch more easily, unlike our powder coating which are completely scratch resistant.”
CW Systems
Deanna Crutcher of CW Systems says the company continues to maintain its imported and locally made external aluminium shutters for outdoor commercial and residential spaces through a diverse distributor network located across the country.
“Vueline Aluminium provides an elegant, durable external shading solution to withstand harsh and high-traffic environments. Vueline is the ultimate in transforming outdoor spaces, creating more liveable, functional, and stylish outdoor areas around Australia.”
“While exterior colours have always typically been less prone to momentary design trends, in 2022 we have noticed a shift from traditional whites and creams to bold monochrome colour schemes for external areas. Consumers collectively are more likely to experiment with bolder, darker and deeper colours in 2022.”
“Recently CW Systems has added Monument to its standard Vueline colour range. Monument is a rich charcoal colour which creates a statement in alfresco and outdoor dining areas bringing out a stylish contemporary edge to a home.”
“CW Systems is striving to maintain high stock levels to ensure a shorter turnaround time to its distributor base in order to ensure that they can continue to supply stylish external shading products to consumers around Australia.”
Crutcher says CW Systems has also seen an increase in demand for larger-size louvres and have now added the 150mm louvre to their standard range.
“This allows for wider spans and less louvres per panel, further increasing the options and markets the distributors can install aluminium shutters into.”
