TURNILS ALPHA M PREMIERES

ISSUE 67 JULY 2019

Described as a “hero” of this year’s SuperExpo was the preview demonstration of the Turnils Alpha M Awning, Australia’s first magnetic retention system with widths up to 6.5m. Launching in September through Hunter Douglas, the fully patented system offers the next evolution in external awnings.

Kane Fuessel, Senior Manager of the Product Development Team for Hunter Douglas comments:

“The product was invented in the US, evolving through the addition of further technology since its inception. Alpha M has been adapted for Australian conditions by Hunter Douglas and will be available as part of the Turnils Alpha Awnings family, fitting with the contemporary look of the existing systems.”

“What makes it special is that it overcomes all of the hurdles and challenges current zip type systems experience such as sagging skins, blowouts and ongoing service calls,” says Fuessel.

Frequent demonstrations were hosted by inventor Arthur James, who put the awning through rigorous pulling and pushing over countless sessions including taking the skin out of the channel, running into the screen and beating the awning repeatedly without any failures.

“If for example, the screen came out of the side channels, which is commonplace with many systems, it’s no worry. Simply roll the awning down and back up again and the screen will self-correct and be pulled taut by the specially located magnets in the channels,” he explains, adding “it removes the need for repeat service calls providing a better customer experience for consumers. This, in turn, provides retailers and fabricators with cost efficiencies as it eliminates the need for service teams”. Other key features such as the interlocking weight bar and tube-in-tube roller put the Alpha M in another league to other systems on the market.

Alpha M will be offered exclusively with the new Stance Fibreglass Screen, launching August, a sophisticated twill weave external screen made in Europe that offers exceptional performance over polyester or cheaper imported screens. Fibreglass can withstand extreme temperature variations making it ready for Australia’s climate from seaside to outback, with reliable shape and size performance.

Product Manager for Awnings, Kevin Foong explains why the system will only be offered with this fabric by stating “When partnered with the Alpha M system, Stance Fibreglass Screen will provide consistent reliable performance due to its exceptional properties. The skin will appear taut and beautiful from any position even if it is rolled over itself or folded, the system pulls the skin back into place to look flat and flawless” Foong adds “this is the only system in the world that has self-correcting advantages due to the design of the free floating magnets in the channels”.

Alpha M is scheduled to launch to the market this September.
