Shaw says the process is engineered so the coating and textile work together as one, rather than simply applying a coating to a base fabric, and that the matt result sets the fabrics apart from conventional coated roller fabrics.
Shaw has worked with its longtime manufacturing partner to present an advanced coating technology for blockout roller blind fabric. Its Cove and Nuance fabrics are both made using the process.
The manufacturing process brings together coating technology and textile expertise. Shaw says it produces a more natural-looking, refined surface with a matt appearance.
Production begins with a multi-layer backing process that incorporates multiple foam-coating stages to build performance into the fabric. Each product then receives its own specialised finishing treatment. Cove has a nano-flocked backing designed to enhance handle and give quiet roll-up performance. Nuance has a silicone-treated backing for a smooth, refined finish.
On the face, direct-colour coating technology combines the fabric construction, coating formulation and application process to give a modern matt finish. According to Shaw, rather than creating a coating that simply sits on the surface, the technology encourages greater integration with the base, helping to produce a defined texture that is visible from a distance, even in lighter colours.
The company says the fabrics are aimed at designers, manufacturers and consumers looking for something beyond a conventional roller blind fabric. It describes the process as a different approach to roller fabric manufacturing, not simply a better coating, and says the approach creates a new benchmark for premium performance and appearance.
