celebrating 100 years of wilson fabrics, a century of Australian craftsmanship

Issue 106 January 2026

As iconic business Wilson Fabrics marks its centenary, General Manager Peta FitzGibbon shares insights and gratitude on behalf of the Wilson leadership team.

For a century, Wilson Fabrics has been woven into the fabric of Australian homes, businesses and communities. From the company’s early beginnings to its current status as a globally recognised, respected leader in window furnishing fabrics, the company’s heritage is not simply measured in years, but in the generations of hands, minds, and hearts that built and sustained its reputation, says General Manager Peta FitzGibbon.

For FitzGibbon and the company’s leadership team, reaching a centenary is a milestone few companies achieve; and she believes it stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment, skill, and spirit that has defined Wilson Fabrics since the day one.

“This milestone belongs first and foremost to the generations of staff who helped establish Wilson Fabrics as a brand synonymous with quality, reliability and trust. From our weavers and loom operators to the technicians, engineers, designers, production and sales teams who modernised our operations across the decades, your contribution has shaped who we are today.

“You upheld standards that became part of our identity, our DNA. Every person who contributed to Wilson Fabrics over the last 100 years across all facets of the business has played a vital role in our journey, and this anniversary is a celebration of your legacy.

“To the exceptional team we have today, thank you for continuing the legacy with passion, ingenuity and dedication. In today’s world we operate in a world of rapid technological changes, rising sustainability expectations, and global competition, challenges our founders could never have imagined. Yet you bring the same grit, pride, and sense of purpose that has always defined our company.

“Whether you are involved in manufacturing, product development, customer service, design, quality control, logistics, sales, finance and administration, your contributions ensure that Wilson Fabrics remains an Australian success story. Your commitment to excellence keeps our products trusted across the country and around the world.”

“ As we celebrate this extraordinary milestone, we extend our deepest thanks to our customers who have stood by Wilson Fabrics throughout the past 100 years,” FitzGibbon continues. “Your ongoing support, trust, and loyalty have been the driving force behind our growth and longevity. Quite simply, we would not be where we are today without you. Whether you have partnered with us for decades or joined us more recently, your support has shaped our journey and helped define the brand we are today. Your belief in us continues to inspire innovation, strengthen our reputation, and enable us to thrive and for this, we are truly thankful.”

FitzGibbon concludes: “Our commitment for the future is clear – to remain leaders in the textiles Industry and continue to embrace innovation and technology that reflects the modern world’s needs. We will continue to invest in sustainable manufacturing practices, product performance and design excellence, ensuring Wilson Fabrics stays at the forefront of an industry that continues to transform.

“As we celebrate 100 years, we are reminded that legacy is both inherited and earned. We honour the past not by preserving it unchanged, but by evolving with the same integrity, courage, and craftsmanship that our company was founded on in 1926.

“To every past and present member of the Wilson Fabrics family, we thank you. This centenary is the culmination of your dedication, your craftsmanship, and your belief in what we do. It is a privilege to represent you, and to represent a brand that has stood proudly in the Australian textile industry for a hundred remarkable years.

“Here’s to the legacy behind us, honouring the people beside us today, and to the future we are committed to building together.”
