Para Hills Community Club

The revamp of Para Hills Community Club has delivered a striking blend of function and form, turning previously weather-exposed decking into a fully functional, all-weather alfresco dining space with uninterrupted views of the local football and soccer grounds.

The club, positioned as a vital community hub in Adelaide’s north, features two large outdoor decking areas designed to enhance the spectator experience. On sunny training and match days, these spaces offer an unbeatable vantage point for families and friends to enjoy a meal and beverage while watching games unfold below.

Yet, as with many outdoor hospitality venues across Australia, the open-air design of the decks posed a recurring operational challenge: weather. Wind, rain, and seasonal temperature drops routinely drove patrons indoors or sent spectators scrambling for shelter in their cars. The loss of these dining areas during poor weather conditions not only reduced seating capacity but also negatively impacted the customer experience and the club’s revenue potential.

The management team at Para Hills Community Club sought a solution that would allow them to better use the outdoor areas in all seasons – without sacrificing the relaxed, open feel and visual connection to the sports fields below. The answer came in the form of CW Products’ EasyView Roller Shutters.

Installed in two stages, the project saw six EasyView shutters fitted to one deck and four more to the second. Each shutter measured approximately 3,300mm wide by 2100mm high and was custom-built in sleek black extruded aluminium, featuring alternating slats of UV-resistant, transparent polycarbonate for maximum visibility. 

This unique combination delivered protection from the elements, while creating a safe space for patrons and preserving the Club’s fantastic views.

The shutters are powered by Simu 240v Hz (remote controlled) motors with wireless wall-mounted controls. They also incorporate handheld remotes, discretely stored behind each end of the extensive indoor bar area – allowing staff to easily operate them while maintaining line of sight to the decks.

Importantly, the shutters were installed with inward-facing pelmets, ensuring a clean external façade that complements the Club’s architectural lines.

The result was an immediate transformation – turning previously weather-dependent spaces into functional, year-round dining zones.

According to Assistant Venue Manager Sonny Vorakoumane, installing CW Products EasyView Roller Shutters was a great investment that has had a significant impact on the club’s operations.

“They were mainly installed for convenience and for the look,” he says. 

“During nice weather we have it up, but in winter we have it down and it works perfect for us.”

This newfound flexibility has allowed the club to make full use of its alfresco areas without the need for cumbersome reconfigurations each time the weather changes.

“We don’t have to bring all the furniture in nightly anymore – they’ve been a great benefit in that way,” he says. 

The installation also provided unexpected benefits. When lowered, the shutters help retain heat and create a more comfortable, enclosed space for diners during colder months – further increasing the venue’s appeal and usability.

“There’s been a real wow factor,” says Vorakoumane. “People don’t realise how tough they are.”
