The Window Shading Association of Australia (WSAA) became the first non-European country to support Global Shading Day. Held on 21 March, the WSAA joined the initiative that highlights the essential role of solar shading in energy efficiency and climate resilience.
Launched in 2023 by the European Solar Shading Organisation (ES-SO), Global Shading Day has quickly grown, with Australianow embracing the movement. The event serves as a powerful reminder of how passive cooling strategies can combat rising temperatures and reduce energy consumption.
For Global Shading Day 2025, WSAA focused ona week-longsocial media awareness and engagementcampaign using the hashtag #GlobalShadingDay to help spread the word and ensuring that the message reached Australianwindow shading industry professionals.
Next year the WSAA plans to build on its support with activations and advertising with the aim to also reachpolicymakers and everyday Australians. “By participating in this awareness initiative, WSAA aims to inspire governments, architects, builders, and homeowners to integrate window shading into their regulations, designs and energy strategies” said WSAA CEO Wesley Fawaz.
Global Shading Day is more than a one-day event, it’s a call to action for a more sustainable future. Whether you’re a manufacturer, retailer, supplier, installer, you can play a part by learning more and sharing knowledge via Global Shading Day.

Why Solar Shading Matters
As extreme weather events become more frequent and energy demands continue to rise, solar shading offers a simple yet effective solution:
• Passive Cooling – Reduces reliance on air conditioning, cutting energy use and costs.
• Comfort & Well-Being – Creates a more comfortable indoor environment by reducing glare and heat.
• Sustainability – Contributes to significant CO2 reductions, helping meet global climate targets.
