Window Furnishings Australia wouldn’t exist without our highly valued industry colleagues. Here, some of the leading businesses with whom WFA has worked over the years share their thoughts on our reaching 100 editions of the magazine.
Redishade
Industry stalwart Redishade Director and Blindware founder Grant Norton comments. “As someone who was instrumental in the development of the original magazine concept, I have vivid memories of the early days of WFA magazine. Support was mixed, with some high-profile members of the industry not initially supportive. Eventually, the important role of the magazine as an industry-wide communications medium became clear to all and support for the magazine quickly accelerated. I think Uniline featured on the first edition cover and Blindware maintained Page 3 advertising position through all the years I was operating the business. I have maintained a strong association with James and the team since those very early days.
Despite that initial resistance, the magazine rapidly found a place in the Australian industry and Blindware was a strong supporter and contributor, says Norton.
“The production quality, quality of content and the quality of advertising was apparent from the very beginning and remains so to this day. I feel that our ongoing exposure through WFA assisted greatly to build and reinforce the Blindware brand, plus that of our many products such as SunBoss, ZeroGravity, Motolux, NewYork and others.
“In terms of the magazine’s content, I think the broad appeal of WFA to manufacturers, suppliers and retailers alike has grown from the breadth and relevance of editorial and advertorial topic. The magazine has clearly developed over the first 100 editions to become a true industry magazine, not focused only any single segment of the market. Important editorial contributions over the years have been key to ensuring that industry members have been kept fully informed on important industry events and topics, such as: editorial through the Covid-19 pandemic that provided ongoing and important advice to industry members; coverage of major BMAA topics like child safety, energy, FR and building licensing, plus coverage of local and international exhibitions.
Norton believes WFA has played a very important role within the Australian industry “to provide a voice to both large and smaller industry members, especially giving smaller players with more limited financial resources an ability to access and speak to the majority of industry participants.”
“The creative and high-quality production has ensured ongoing industry-wide support, including from the largest of industry members. In the end, these companies would not advertise if there was no return on that investment.
My message to James Boston and the whole team at WFA? Keep it up, you’re doing a great job!
Wynstan
Wynstan Head of Product and Marketing Amelia Taylor recalls learning about WFA on entering the industry in late 2007 as an Assistant Product Manager. “I was quickly taught by my boss at the time about the magazine’s influence. If you wanted the industry to know about your latest product release, it was the go-to platform to get the word out.
“As a newbie, I was eager to learn as much as I could, and the magazine was an incredible resource. It gave me a clear understanding of the business, brands, products, and who’s who in the zoo. I was really impressed—it gave the industry a professional swagger that stood out.
For the industry as a whole, WFA has been instrumental in bridging the gap between manufacturers, suppliers, and retailers, creating a shared platform for communication and collaboration, Taylor says.
“Congratulations on the 100th edition—what a huge achievement! It’s always been so easy working with the team when booking and putting forward editorial ideas. You’re a well-oiled machine and have become an integral thread in the fabric of our industry.”
Blinds by Peter Meyer
Blinds by Peter Meyer Managing Director Simon Meyer says his company has a longstanding history with WFA.
In fact, he recalls receiving emails from WFA reporters as far back as 2008.
“We were always an early supporter of the magazine as we believe the industry needs a voice and as a family run business, we love being able to get our new products out to retailers across all of Australia.
“The content has always been edgy and on trend following market trend from Europe and ensuring that it remains relevant. This is a testament to the effort of James and the whole Boston Publishing team.
In terms of the magazine’s influence on the industry as a whole, Meyer is clear.
“It’s been nothing but positive! I love getting my magazine every month and keeping up with the latest in the industry. We’re only a small industry but everyone seems to know everyone. That’s what I love about it, and I think the magazine has bought all of us closer together.
“A big thank you to all the team. They are always accommodating and diligent and a delight to work with. They are always there to help tweak things when we’re running late or help us where needed!”
Alpha Motors: Celebrating 100 Editions of Excellence With WFA
Graham Tunstall, Managing Director of Alpha Motors, says: “We are proud to have been associated with WFA for the past decade, and this milestone is a testament to the enduring partnership we have fostered together.
“Over the last 10 years, Alpha Tubular Motors has consistently delivered innovative motorization solutions that redefine convenience and reliability. This anniversary is not just a celebration of WFA’s commitment to quality journalism; it also reflects the unwavering support and collaboration from our loyal customers, which has been integral to our success.
“At Alpha, our mission has always been clear: to enhance the customer experience through innovation and excellence. We recognise that customer needs are continually evolving, and we are dedicated to staying ahead of these changes. Our focus on research and development allows us to remain at the forefront of technological advancements, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in motorisation technology.
“We are thrilled to unveil our latest innovations, which will further elevate the convenience and functionality we offer.
“Revolutionising motorisation technology – One of our significant upgrades this year is the transition of our rechargeable battery motors (WSERD30-B) to 5V USB-C charging. This enhancement not only improves usability but also aligns with modern technological standards, ensuring a seamless experience for our customers. Additionally, our new motors, available in 1Nm, 2Nm, and 3Nm, feature Alpha’s patented Coreless technology, providing ultra-quiet operation and high efficiency. With three selectable speeds and concealed antennas, these motors exemplify a sleek and modern aesthetic.
“Expanding Our Product Portfolio – In our efforts to cater to a diverse range of needs, we have introduced a 20Nm lithium-ion rechargeable motor (WSERD50-B) designed specifically for external screen manufacturers. This innovative motor eliminates the need for an electrician, enhancing safety in installations where 240V could pose a risk. With multiple charging options, including 5V USB-C, solar panel charging, and various cable length charging ports, this product offers unparalleled convenience.
“Moreover, our 240-volt WSER50 G 20/17 Grey Universal motor is a 20Nm economy solution ideal for external straight drop and zip systems. Equipped with features from our larger universal motors, including an upward torque stop, it ensures optimal performance and safety, reaffirming our commitment to quality and affordability.
“We are also excited to introduce the new WSSD50 20Nm DC roller shutter motor with a rechargeable wall switch. Almost silent in operation, this motor is the perfect choice for domestic roller shutters and incorporates an internal USB-C rechargeable battery for enhanced functionality.
“Looking Ahead – Our dedication to innovation, excellence, and customer satisfaction will continue to guide our journey. We are grateful for the trust and support of our customers and look forward to serving you with the same commitment that has defined our first twelve years in business.
“To our valued customers, thank you for being an essential part of the Alpha family. Your loyalty and feedback have been instrumental in our success, and we are excited to share the next chapter of our journey with you. Stay tuned for more exciting updates and innovations from Alpha Tubular Motors.
Tunstall says he and the team at Alpha extend “heartfelt congratulations to Window Furnishings Australia magazine on the remarkable achievement of their 100th print edition.”

Ozroll: Marking 25 Years of Innovation With WFA No. 100!
As Ozroll proudly celebrates its 25th anniversary, the company reflects on a journey defined by innovation, growth, and an unwavering commitment to quality.
A legacy of innovation
Since its establishment in 1999, Ozroll has transformed from a skilled roller shutter manufacturer in Dry Creek to a leading force in the window furnishings and shade industry.
Ozroll’s story began with deep expertise in roller shutter production. In 2005, we revolutionised the industry with the launch of our Australian Design Award-winning Ozroll Drive System (ODS). This groundbreaking 12V solution allowed roller shutters to be motorised without the need for an electrician, providing an affordable and convenient option for Australian homeowners. This innovation spurred our international expansion with the establishment of Ozroll Europe in Germany.
In 2007, Ozroll strategically acquired the Rollashield and Shutter Concepts brands, inheriting an aluminium louvre range and establishing fabrication capabilities in Brisbane. By 2015, we had expanded into a purpose-built facility on the Gold Coast, where we began manufacturing plantation shutters.
Our growth continued in 2017 with the acquisition of the Slidetrack outdoor blind range, bringing production to our Dry Creek facility and later expanding manufacturing to the Gold Coast.
Global reach and international success
“Ozroll’s dedication to quality and innovation has enabled us to serve a growing international market. Our products are now distributed across America, Canada, South Africa, Israel, New Zealand, and New Caledonia, solidifying our presence on the global stage and showcasing the strength of Australian manufacturing,” Says Ryan Charvetto, Ozroll National Sales & Marketing Manager.
Industry-leading lead times
“Ozroll continues to set the benchmark for efficiency with our industry-leading lead times. Roller shutters are dispatched within 48 hours, ensuring rapid delivery for our customers. Our plantation shutters boast an impressive turnaround of just two weeks and, in many cases, can be ready within one week—a testament to our commitment to operational excellence.”
Commitment to a greener future
“Sustainability remains central to our progress. Our involvement with Wincover and the transition to using LocAL Green Aluminium in our Elipso louvre brand underscores Ozroll’s dedication to environmentally responsible manufacturing. These initiatives align with our goal to minimise our environmental footprint while delivering cutting-edge products.”
Excellence in customer service
“At Ozroll, our dedication to quality extends beyond our products to encompass our entire business. Providing exceptional customer service is a cornerstone of our operations as we strive to build strong, lasting relationships with our partners and clients. This focus ensures that every interaction reflects the high standards we uphold across our organisation.”
Looking ahead
“As we celebrate this milestone, Ozroll remains committed to pioneering innovations that redefine industry standards. Our focus on sustainable growth, product excellence, and empowering our partners continues to drive our success. We are excited about the future, with ongoing product developments that promise to elevate our offerings while honouring our commitment to Australian manufacturing.”
Our mission
“We deliver premium quality window furnishings and shade products that combine precision and craftsmanship, operational efficiency, and energy-saving innovation while maintaining the shortest production times. Through an unwavering commitment to quality and customer service, we seek to empower our partners, drive sustainable growth, and support Australian manufacturing.”
Our vision
“To lead the window furnishings and shade industry as Australia’s most trusted provider of high-quality, innovative solutions, fostering local manufacturing excellence, a thriving ecosystem of partners, and unmatched efficiency in delivery.”
And last but not least, to WFA
“Congratulations to the magazine on 15 years of industry excellence. Ozroll is honoured to celebrate our 25-year journey alongside your milestone and looks forward to continued growth and innovation in the years ahead.”
Ozroll CEO Chris Parkinson says WFA has always been an important business tool for the company.
“It is difficult to pinpoint my very first memory of WFA magazine, though our records and correspondence date back to 2008. I do, however, distinctly remember how relatable and valuable I found this industry-specific publication at the time. It was clear to me that we needed to be part of its journey and over the years that sentiment has only strengthened.
“Each issue of WFA is a convenient and efficient way to stay informed about developments within the marketplace. It’s always interesting to see well-recognized brands featured, including both customers and competitors alike.
“In some respects, we are guilty of relying solely on what our customers share with us, so WFA has become an essential learning tool that enables us to keep up with market trends and developments. It also serves as a platform to educate and inform other companies about our own products and services. This dual function has proven invaluable, not only helping us source new customers and products but also playing a pivotal role in significant milestones, such as initiating the discussions that eventually led to Ozroll’s acquisition of Slidetrack Blinds.
“Over the years, the magazine has continued to evolve and grow. Its editorials, company profiles, and articles spotlighting key personalities within the industry, provides a refreshing opportunity to reflect—not only on our own business but also on the achievements and challenges of others.
“Another personal highlight is James’ opening welcome, which often provides insightful commentary on current industry trends and happenings.
“As a board member of the WSAA (formerly BMAA), I would be remiss not to also acknowledge the unwavering support James and the WFA team have shown to our association including members, and external partners.
“I would like to extend my congratulations to James and the entire WFA team on reaching the incredible milestone of their 100th edition.”
