BMAA Director Peter Meyer wishes industry a (belated) Happy New Year with some apt advice on the kind of resolution window furnishings specialists should be making.
“Join the BMAA if you aren’t already a member!”
Meyer summed up the new year’s buoyant mood at the BMAA following a number of milestones in 2018.
“We’ve had an excellent raft if new memberships and many successes for the committee, in addition to being almost fully sold out for the Super Expo 2019. All in all, it was a great year. We also welcomed three new directors to our committee and farewelled one long serving member, Tony Politis, and another director who needed to resign for personal reasons.”
“We had four general meetings including our AGM and had a number of excellent speakers at those meetings. Our training initiative had a great year and we had a great report from some participants at the AGM. Our WincovER project is getting very close to finalising as is our brand new website which is now on line.”
“On a personal note, I also turned 70 on 3 November 2018 and had a great party! Thank you to all members for your birthday wishes.”
Meyer also confirmed that at the BMAA annual general meeting on 1 November in Melbourne, the BMAA board announced a new award to be given jointly by BMAA and STA and open to members of both associations. The award is a design accolade open to both interior and exterior products, with separate awards for commercial and domestic applications.
The entry format of the award is to be by photograph and the details submitted should cover:
“While professional photography is not mandatory, it is strongly recommended that good quality images will be advantageous as it will not be possible to visit all the entry sites, if indeed any.”
“Work must be verified as carried out in Australian locations and must be the work of the entrant’s company, although it is acceptable for the work to have been carried out through a third party. Permission should be sought from clients to use the images as we envisage the top projects being featured in Window Furnishings Australia magazine.”
Entries may be electronic, but images must be of a certain size to be able to be judged.
The award will be independently judged and announced at the STA dinner at Super Expo 2019. Details are available on the STA website.
The BMAA is also currently contemplating two other awards:
“We will call for nominations for these awards,” Meyer confirmed. “The presentation of these awards is still to be finalised by the board but these could become annual awards and announced at our AGM.”
In addition, the BMAA is calling for nominations for the BMAA Hall of Fame.
“Many will already know that the Hall of Fame was established to honour and recognise the outstanding achievement of individuals who make a very real and positive contribution to the development of blind manufacturing in Australia. The most prestigious award conferred by the BMAA is induction into the Hall of Fame. The inductee will be announced at the BMAA Gala Dinner, an exciting event filled with glitz, glamour and fabulous entertainment, held at the conclusion of Super Expo 2019.”
