WincovER continues rollout

Issue 88 January 2023

WincovER, the industry led star rating program for blinds, shutters, louvres and awnings that compares their annual thermal performance and energy savings impact, has continued its soft rollout over 2022.

BMAA Director Robert Mayer, who is overseeing the program, said that the two soft rollout partners, OzRoll and Hunter Douglas are taking the first steps in building knowledge in their sales teams and dealer networks.

“It is fundamental to the success of the program, that we educate the retailer, we need to educate the sales team. If they don’t understand the program, well how can they communicate it,” Mayer said.

“Right now they’re taking those steps, with the WincovER online training program that we’ve developed.”

The training program first launched in June 2022 has three modules:

1. Introduction to WincovER: available to members with an interest in our energy rating program

2. WincovER for Retailers: the above plus information specific for retailers (like “What does WincovER mean to End Consumers”, and “WincovER as an opportunity to Upsell”

3. Issuing WincovER Certificates: the above two, plus how to issue the Certificates, specific for staff responsible for issuing WincovER Certificates.

OzRoll are promoting the WincovER program through their business The Modern Group who have sales teams in all the five larger states.

“Modern are promoting the program online with their WincovER rated products are on the website.”

“Hunter Douglas have also been having some seminars with their Luxaflex dealers and presenting the program, putting it all together.”

“They will be signing up their Luxaflex dealers to our online training program. So that is happening right now – they will also be having some pages with information on WincovER in the luxaflex.com.au website.”

Mayer said that with the technical part of the program essentially finished the BMAA is looking at how it can enhance the program and make it sustainable.

“Sustainability means making it affordable, making it affordable not only for BMAA but very importantly for our supplier members.”

“They are the ones who are getting the products tested. They are the ones who have to pay for the testing, for the simulation, for the audit – it all adds up.”

“So we are currently looking at ways to reduce the amount of tests being done.”

Mayer added that at some stage in mid-2023, the BMAA board will decide whether the program is opened up for the whole industry.
