Louvolite up to the new challenge

Issue 86 September 2022

An increase in popularity of bi-fold doors in addition to the use of European style ‘tilt and turn’ windows are creating new window shading requirements.

David Kennedy, from Louvolite, says that whilst bi-fold doors can be shaded by large roller, Vision or vertical blinds, these typically affect the whole area at once and seldom allow the level of flexibility often required by the consumer.

“Tilt and turn windows combine the ability to be either fully open or tilted open from the ‘top in’ allowing access to fresh air whilst not being fully opened at least one of these operations impacts on the traditional installation of a shade which would typically impair the opening of the window.”

“A common denominator for both items is the fact that the majority of these installations feature double glazed sealed units which are secured by flexible rubber gaskets.”

“A number of years ago Louvolite UK was faced with a similar issue when such items became popular in the UK market, their solution was the creation and supply of an installation system which worked with these glazing systems like a hand fits to a glove.”

Kennedy says that a a totally unique factor of this solution, the Louvolite Perfect Fit, is that installing this system requires no drilling or screwing into the window frame or the surrounding architecture.

“With Louvolite’s Perfect Fit system the surveyor measures the inside of the glazing bead to bead for width and drop. A Perfect Fit frame is then manufactured to fit the window and a blind is manufactured to fit the frame. The frame is punched in appropriate sections to receive the Perfect Fit brackets.”

“The brackets are sprung metal and feature a flat base at 90 degrees to the locating prongs. The flat base of the bracket allows it to slide between the double-glazed sealed unit and the flexible rubber gasket at appropriate locations to marry up with the slots punched in the frame.”

Kennedy says that to install the frame the installer simply offers the frame to the brackets and the frame simply locks onto the brackets securing the frame in position and allowing the blind to operate and function in a normal manner.

“If it is ever required to remove the frame it and blind can be removed as one. Simply apply pressure to the lugs of the bracket and the frame comes away for the window – clip the frame back in re-install, it takes literally seconds to install a Perfect Fit blind “

“The Perfect Fit installation system, when combined with cellular fabric, allows the individual panels in bi-fold doors to be dressed with blinds which can be operated individually to maximise /minimise or frankly anywhere in between the levels of light transmitted of the degree of privacy required. The bi-fold panels can still be opened and folded back as normal albeit with a degree of consideration for the Perfect Fit frame.”

“With tilt and turn windows the introduction of Perfect Fit cellular blind allows the window to operate fully in both fully open position or tilt only position without any interference to the operation; combining the two items allows ventilation and shade at the same time – a Perfect solution.”

The Louvolite Perfect Fit installation system is available in a number of colours to allow seamless integration with the window glazing frames used.

“Of course white is arguably the most popular but Louvolite’s Anthracite grey, similar to the popular Monument colour, silver, brown and two foil natural wood effects in Golden Oak and Mahogany.”

“For those very special customers who demand dedicated colours specifically for their needs Louvolite also carry mill finish profile in order that customers can have it coloured to suit.”

Louvolite’s all new cellular fabric programme features 68 options. 34 Light filter and 34 matching high performance co-ordinating block out fabrics.

“The range covers plains in addition to textured prints and is presented in a way that provides easy selection by the consumer with full solar and optical performance details provided for each fabric,” Kennedy says.

“The cell sizes are all 25mm- by far and away the most popular size – and the width of all fabrics is three metres wide.”

“Combining Louvolite’s new cellular programme with Louvolite’s Perfect Fit installation system gives the industry a new and refreshing alternative to traditional window shading options and provides the consumer with options that hitherto they were not aware were available to them.”
